5 Science Park Drive, Cluster 1, Singapore 5 Science Park Drive is the latest building in Singapore’s Science Park, Asia’s leading R&D and technology location done in collaboration with Serie Architects, London. Officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, 5SPD re-works the model for a technology building to reflect the needs of emerging e-commerce and research organisations. This flagship building will form the basis of the re-development of Science Park Cluster 1. The Science Park model of the 1990s, with buildings isolated from one another by under-utilized landscape is no longer adequate for today’s workspaces that are more social in nature. The first of more than five buildings in the cluster, 5SPD is designed to ensure that common spaces are visible, accessible and nourished with amenities. The building features a three-storey extended lobby or ‘city room’ that incorporates a series of cascading platforms incorporating a café, break-out spaces and a small auditorium. This space is focused on collaboration, discussion and networking. The floor plans are designed to maximise flexibility. A typical floorplate has over 4,000sqm in open plan space and column-free spans of 20 metres. Centralized circulation with highly efficient double-loaded corridors allows the building to be configured for single or multi-tenant use. The façade features high performance glazing set into an alternating ‘accordion’ design that is animated at night with a re-programmable LED light system. The design combines vision and spandrel glazing to maximise views while mitigating solar gain. The adjacent car park has been covered with extensive landscaping and amenities including exercise pavilions. This will eventually form a shared park for a cluster of...

The African Economic City (AEC) Design Proposal (2008) Conceptualised from the process of crystal growth, the AEC shall be a send crystal of an African aspiration forming at the edge of the hypnotically beautiful Mediterranean coastline emerging from the expanse of the 20km by 20km site, the lines of geometry emerges from its 4 corners to find the center. From the center, radiates the evolving geometry of the site, like an organic crystalline growth radiating its web-like lattice structure. From this lattice veins development will start to sprout. This robust and evolving matrix absorbs variety and from it will spring forth a unique and characteristic motif – a motif of AEC. Gleaming of like and vibrancy, the city’s tapestry of light is seen from the skies in the twilight hours. The map profile of Africa is superimposed onto the site, forming another later to the tapestry. Its 1km width shall form the natural green connector to the site, symbolically emphasizing the varied and beautiful landscape of Africa and the importance of its preservation. Wei Hai Hot Spring Spa Resort Design Proposal (2007) Located in eastern Shandong province, China, the Weihai – Hot Spring Spa Resort, masterplan takes its inspiration from the site’s natural topographic beauty and majestic landscape. While being divided into 3 land plots that will be realized in separate phases, the entire development is linked together through the introduction of a linear ‘crystal mountain’ spine containing high social activity level programs that will form the central focal points for this new township. Taking into consideration of the local population’s close relationship to nature, extensive plots of lush green landscapes and multi- directional waterway channels are consciously introduced to create the constant interaction between human activities and nature, thus providing the basis for a vibrant street life to emerge and evolve.
